    I'm aincerely asking, not trying to be contrite.. Also, I havent watched any of your other videos, you probably have, but have you been to other races who have treated your hair better?

    I'm sorry how did is this lady supposed to be a stylist and cannot even detangle your hair. And the condescending tone of the lady in the background just infuriated me. This was unacceptable on all levels. If you would have came in with horse hair on your head like them it would have been no issue.

    You go to the doctor for annual checkups when you are fine. You are supposed to be doing your maintenance and taking your meds in between. Same with the dentist, you go for a cleaning twice a year, but you should still brush your teeth before you go.

    Thank you for sharing your story. You're right about the Black hair salon experience & finding reasonable solutions by business owners fto satisfy their customers. Also, Lauralyn❤❤❤! I've seen her work on UA-cam with Locs & shes amazingly talented! Your hair turned out beautifully!

    She did her best but was not experienced with your beautiful hair texture. She just couldn’t and didn’t know how to handle it. The second stylist was much better.

    Whew, this was a lot to unpack. You said a few things that I would like to touch on. First of all, your fro is EVERYTHING!! Love it!! Let's start with the clip you shared at the 5:34 mark. She gave you some really good tips, but I think your thought process can use another perspective. Why wouldn't you go to the dentist when your teeth are good? Would you not brush your teeth before going to the dentist? Would you not clean your genitals before a GYN appointment? What the stylist was saying was to show up ready for your service. Being ready for your service means having your hair already detangled OR scheduling a detangling session, which is usually an extra cost because it is indeed extra time. Finger detangling is not detangling. A comb is the most suitable for the hair because it can get into tighter spaces within the coils. Also, using a comb attachment for the blowdryer is more suitable for coily hair textures. A brush of any kind should never be used on wet hair. Hope this helps and hope this sheds some light on the matter.

    I learned many years ago to have a consultation with the hairdresser and look at their hair before letting them proceed with any shampooing, conditioning,etc. 🧐

    It truly is so upsetting when they gaslight you by giving you ‘tips’ assuming you don’t know how to take care of your own hair and insinuating that their lack of training is actually your fault. So uncomfortable.

    Didn’t go to a salon for a DECADE because of how bad it was. Went ONCE last winter and have now had to cut off so much length because of how much hair they ripped out. Almost a DECADE of growth gone. Never again. I’ve given up.

    Im a stylist in Virginia, non-black latino and I love that you did this video because it really helps me understand the black experience behind the chair with so much more nuance. I dont have your texture, so I can't ever fully understand, but it helps me understand better the things I can do to give my tight curl clients an overall better experience.

    Good for you for addressing this. I would say directly and absolutely, if the stylist doesn't wear HER hair in a natural style, STAY AWAY from her. They ALL say they know what they are doing. It's a lie and they are too embarrassed to admit it. A stylist who wears a natural hair style either knows how to do it or knows someone who does. Someone on the street wearing their natural hair the way you like is the best person to get recommendations from. Random doesn't work for us. Hint, Black men don't do that much to their hair, Black women shouldn't either. Salons are cute, but they aren't our jam. Consider how they make their money. The more they do to your hair, the more they get paid. BEWARE. Stay beautiful, stay natural. Much love!

    It’s so hard going to salons these days. I usually get sew-ins or knotless braids. It’s like they don’t know how to be gentle, using no heat protectant, no leave-in. Nothing. Just wash & condition and straight to blow dry smh I have to spend all that money to get it done then also bring my own products smh Then when I told my stylist, she told me she doesn’t want to put too many products and make my hair greasy. Ummm adding heat protectant and leave-in isn’t going to make my hair greasy. It’s like if they do a sew-in on you, they forget all about the health of the natural hair. Very annoying.

    I live in South Africa (born and raised) and I have an overwhelming number of salon horror stories and have opted to do my hair at home but when I need braids or cornrows I am forced to go to the salon, I prep (wash,detangle and condition) then say a little prayer as the auntie uses the smallest comb and refuses to use sections to blow dry my thick long hair before braiding. The fact that she is the best of the many worst options (better the devil I know situation) is the saddest part.I'm just waiting to get a car so I can travel to the 1 natural hair salon in the city in the future so I know i'll only start healing from all this trauma when that happens, the struggle is REAL. Funny part is she swears that my hair is long and healthy all due to her "magical braiding hands".

    ‼️My last experience at a black hair salon was not great. She kept going on and on about how thin my hair was and that people from my country usually have thick hair. MAYBE I’ve been going through trauma! MAYBE I have alopecia! MAYBE I’m stressed and depressed! MAYBE it’s hereditary! I hate when our own people shame us for something we may not be able to control. I came for a beautiful experience and left feeling like something was wrong with me.

    I've never been to a black hair salon, obviously b/c I don't have your type of hair, your video landed on my feed & I just like beauty videos, I can clearly see you have a beautiful head of naturally curly hair, I even know how delicate one s/b when detangling it/brushing it, I'm appalled by some of the comments, honestly, I don't know how you just stood there, after the way she was being rough on your hair, but, I guess you were already there, the end result though, was lovely..... I am so glad the Salon I go to, are all Respectfully Professional stylists.... they "LISTEN" to your concerns & are very empathetic, if you tell them not to wash hard, they won't, if you tell them, not to use that much product, they won't, if you tell them to blow dry it this way/that way, they will, if you bring your own favorite brush, they will use it etc, etc, etc. The price we pay these days to step into a salon is crazy, but worth it, if the Salon really cares about their clients!!!! You look lovely my dear!

    Also to blow dry natural hair it’s better to do the tension method where you pull the hair taught and run the blow dryer along the hair from root to ends and it straightens and dry on its own without a lot of pulling.

  • @ladyla4ya
    @ladyla4ya День тому

    First of all thank you …. I’m a professional licensed hairstylist. What bothers me the most is the dismissal of your valid feelings and expectations of what’s done to YOUR HAIR. 2nd the nerve of the other woman standing by looking with her hands behind her back then says next time pre poo to detangle before you come… Umm no she came to you for a professional service something you are not showing her. When caring for the natural hair yes it must be detangled but you first “hairstylist must gently start with a detangling brush or comb and start from bottom then work your way up as to not rip or cause damage to the ends. You clearly don’t care or specialist in taking care of natural hair… perhaps you should stick with doing weaves & braids. It bothers me because we are in the teaching field of showing women how to take care of their hair but you are causing more damage to the hair. Then they come to people like me who properly show them after their edges have been pulled out, bald patches ,not trimmed etc because you just want to get paid and not focus on your craft of helping grow the hair. It’s so many things wrong with this video watching just made me cringe at the carelessness of how she was doing your hair. SMH 🤦‍♀️
